Primary Schools

The potential for cross curricular learning opportunities inspired by the site and appropriate for all key stages is endless. The history and heritage of the site can be used to address virtually all subject areas and enrich the curriculum.

Creative, cross curricular sessions for most subjects including literacy, numeracy, history, art, science, drama, music, religion and design and technology will be developed using the building and resources associated with the site as primary resources.

Topic days, special events and projects to support the evolving exhibition programme will add to our offer. Promotional events and INSET days for teachers will take place prior to opening in late 2009. For further information and details, please visit our events page.

During the restoration of the building and the development of the project, we will be consulting with teachers and our Learning Advisory Group, to develop sessions that are relevant and appropriate. Local schools will be sampling and evaluating the proposed activities.

Pupils will find out about daily life in a priory, dress as a monk and experience some of the activities which took place, including prayer, contemplation and some daily tasks. Lunch will be included and will be similar to that which would have been eaten at St Katherine’s Priory in the 12th century. Pupils will find out about the art of illumination and create their own illuminated letter. Cost to be confirmed
