Learning

The colourful, vibrant history and cultural heritage of the site and local area provide an exciting resource for creative and enjoyable learning. St Katherine’s will be located in a beautiful, fully restored Victorian Wesleyan chapel which stands on the site of the medieval priory of St Katherine without Lincoln.

The rejuvenated building, centuries of cultural tradition, and wealth of stories will offer visitors many unique and exciting journeys of discovery. From the Romans marching along the Fosse Way into Lincoln, to the founding of St Katherine’s Priory, through the devastation of the priory to the drama of the Victorian period and up to the present day, this site has played a key role in Lincoln’s past.

We will aim to offer visitors of all ages, enjoyable and innovative learning opportunities inspired by the wealth of history and cultural heritage associated with St Katherine’s site, from early medieval times right up to the present day.

A treasured facet to St Katherine’s will be music and the choral tradition. A unique and fully restored eighteenth century organ that will provide a focus for recitals, festivals and for learning opportunities will form part of the restoration.

We look forward to welcoming you at St Katherine’s 900 years of history when we open at the end of 2009.
